Correction Fluid vs Correction Tape
Published on 18-Apr-2011
Have you ever been undecided about which product to use when faced with TWO completely different products yet with similar capabilities and serving the same purpose?

A typical example is choosing between the traditional Correcion Fluid, a.k.a. Tippex or else it's now alternative being the modern Correction Tape.

A Correction Fluid is an opaque, white fluid applied to paper to mask errors in text. Once dried, it can be written over. It is typically packaged in small bottles with an attached brush to its lid which dips into the bottle or in the form of pens with retractable tips.  The brush or pen's tip is used to apply the fluid onto the paper.

Correction Tape is an alternative to correction fluid used to correct mistakes during typing, or, in some forms, handwriting.  One side of the tape, which is placed against the error, is coated in a white, opaque masking material. Pressure applied to the other side of the tape transfers this material to the paper.

Which one to choose...?

Pro's & Con's :

* Correction Fluid is composed of solvents in order to avoid the complete thickening of the fluid inside the bottle over time. Such solvents may also include thinner or such substitutes as bromopropane which may be toxic. Modern Correction Fluid is now being manufactured with organic solvents such as water-based, however this entails a longer drying time as well as incompatibility with some inks.

* Correction Fluid is liquid and requires waiting until it becomes solid before you may write over your covered error. Correction Tape on the other hand is made of solid powder and covered with strong toughness, thus making it possible to re-write directly once applied without any need to wait.

* Correction Tape is more convenient, however even more expensive. Sometimes, the price difference may also be double to the cost price of Correction Fluid.

Bottom line - there is no doubt that Correction Tape is more convenient and safe. However, it is also true that Correction Tape is more expensive than Correction Fluid. So, it boils down to what one's priorities are between Price and Convenience!
